Jake Gyllenhaal Wearing Glasses

I have a dreamy, spectacle wearing boyfriend that I wouldn't leave, even to run away with Jake Gyllenhaal. But this is magical blog land, and we can pretend we're all frolicking in a sexy, bespectacled blog field of dreams and wonder and Jake Gyllenhaal!

He supports the charity "Eyes for the Needy" AND he's a babe. What. A. Dreamboat.

Oh man, he should have played grown up Harry for sure!

It was only a matter of time before I did this..
C'mon! Have a heart! He's wearing a BOW TIE. And glasses! Hyuck hyuck!
No seriously I love this

Frame of the Day: Kirk Originals

Oh. Mah. Lordy.
These are crazyfreakingawesome. I absolutely want to wrap my face in these jellybean wonders right now and forever more. I was going to show one. Then I was all like "Nah, man. Three. Three's much better. Woo!"
So here's three:

And while you're at it, have a look at their plastic spider face store. Incredible!

Check out their website. Dream a little. They even have this great heading at the moment that says "NEWS: SALE NOW ON", which pretty much turns me into a mushy mess of nerd goo.

Ryan Gosling Wearing Glasses. Again.

Um, yep. It's pretty great.

Frame of the Day: Herrlicht

WOW. So, I found these glasses about a year ago, while searching high and low for the perfect pair of wooden frames. I was soon to learn that they can be found, but with one of two major hurdles: either they are so expensive I would have to re-mortgage my house to buy a pair (it's a pretty cheap house, but still), or they just have NO Australian suppliers. In the case of these incredible, hand-crafted Herrlicht specs, the latter is definitely a problem (and possibly the former is too, but no way of finding out...).

Still, that doesn't stop me dreaming and drooling about having these babies perched on my nose. Enjoy!

Check out the sweet, sweeeet hand-craftedness!

These guys also take out the award for the most mind-blowing spectacle case I've ever seen...truly stunning. I wish I could do this. Pass me the lathe!

You can check out more tasty timber here:

Steampunk Spectacles

Trial frames in Optics (these nifty buggers displayed below) are quite intriguing to me. I love anything that looks super utilitarian, and I'm a big fan of "bells and whistles", so to speak. Highly functioning glasses! I would love to get a pair, actually. Imagine never having to worry about fitting new lenses again! Just *click-click* and your new script is ready to rumble!

The other reason I love them is because, I think, secretly, I love all things Steampunk. Yeah, I know it's spreading like an awful Regretsy-rash all over the internet, but I can't help myself! Hey, it's not like I watch crappy TV or do hard drugs, mmmmkay? I need my vices!

Maybe I can blame it all on this guy, in this movie:

Mr. Johnny Depp as the dreamy, nutty scientist (that's four of my favourite things right there! Mmmm, dreamy nut Johnny scientist...) in Sleepy Hollow. Also, Steampunk is very Fullmetal Alchemist, although, all the googling in my morning couldn't find a single pair of nutty spectacles from that show, just classy wire frames like those Hohenheim wears (more on that later, perhaps?).

Anyway, strap on ya cogs, fire up yo' kettles, and get yerself welding, 'cause it's about to get steamy all up in here!

I imagine these side shields to be made of human skin. Yay for recycling!

This pair below is my absolute favourite. Weird, yeah, that I love utilitarian things the most when they come with an extra dash of impracticality? "Oh, scuzzy mah bug eyes, ol' chap, just trying to observe an electron!"

Colanderish. Super duper!

UNGH this reminds me of weird ass bugs making sweet, mechanical love.

These guys are clearly far too shiny and new to be practical in any way, derrrr. But I give out bonus points for coke-bottle amber lenses.

I'm so amazed that someone has managed to make a pair of glasses that basically look EXACTLY how submarines look to me.

Frame of the Day: Jono Hennessy

These frames basically blew my mind. I've been obsessing over chunky, acetate frames in all shades of gemstone and brown, and metal frames haven't really appealed to me. These are the complete antidote to that.

Not only do they fill my current 'chunky' criteria for my dream spectacles, they possess such intricate detail that you just can't find in plastic glasses. I want one in every colour!

You can find these & many of the divine acetates I was talking about, here:

Guys With Glasses

SO, I've found this wondrous little blog called It's pretty great. They have stopped posting, however, I'm happy to peruse the back catalogue, and bring a "Best Of" to you here!
Warning: There may be an overload of man-babe....

Okay, a guy in a forest with a camera and a bow tie...I know he's a hipster, but there's something so forgiveable about hipster-ism when it comes complete with a lovely pair of spectacles...

Babe + guitar + dog + wall of books + glasses = yes yes yes

More hipster camera glasses babe. But, what the hell, I'm writing this in Helvetica, so who am I to judge?

Some Pretty Old Specs

Here are some lovely, vintage glasses I've found browsing around images. The perfect, bookish tortoiseshell pair are my favourite; they're so lovely and light, just divine.

So many amazing pairs in this montage...the striped brown pair below is another favourite, and if I was to wear a cat's-eye design, why not throw some stars in the mix as well?

Absolutely perfect cat's-eye reading spectacles.
